Teachers, Nurses, and Mothers Deserve our Gratitude

Teachers, Nurses, and Mothers Deserve our Gratitude

May is an entire month devoted to the recognition and appreciation of the hard work, dedication and guidance of our teachers, nurses, and mothers. These three jobs are often underappreciated, yet so important to all of us. Now is a great time to provide them special attention and expressions of gratitude. To recognize these special people in our lives, in ways they will truly appreciate, make sure you are specific in how they are recognized, respectful of an individual’s recognition preferences, and tailor the recognition to each person you wish to acknowledge.

Be Specific

Be specific in how you recognize the teachers, nurses, and mothers in your life. Phrases like “Good job!” don’t say why you appreciate them. Try phrases like, “Thank you for being there while my loved one was sick.” Or “My child’s attitude about a subject improved after you did a related activity in class.”

Respect a Person’s Individual Preferences

Remember that not everyone receives gratitude in the same way. Some prefer a well-written or well-said statement of appreciation. Others might like a hug, gift, a chore or project completed for them, or an invitation to coffee or a meal.

Tailor the Recognition to the Person

Just as important as acknowledging an individual’s preference, make sure the recognition matches the person. Some will appreciate recognition in front of an audience, some would rather a quiet exchange maybe followed by a social media shoutout. Showing that you respect their recognition needs and feelings will help them feel even more valued.

Flowers are a universal expression of love, respect and gratitude. Whether it’s a bouquet of their favorite blooms or a planter basket that will be a reminder for months to come, flowers are a welcome gift. The perfect flower to include in bouquets for our humble teachers, nurses, and mothers, is the Lily of the Valley. These white, bell-shaped flowers are sweetly scented in late spring, symbolize humility and happiness and complement all the gorgeous Spring blooms. Spread a little happiness during this time of appreciation and recognition with a custom arrangement.
